Dr. Nizar Zein
Chairman, Global Patient Services
Dr. Zein is the Chief of Hepatology and the inaugural endowed holder of the Mikati Foundation Chair in Liver Diseases. He received several awards, including the American Liver Foundation Scholar Award, the Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award and the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research Mentorship. He has been recognized for academic excellence by the Syrian American Medical Society and honored for his leadership and community service by the Ana G. Mendez University of Puerto Rico as the recipient of Presidential Medal in 2011. He was elected to the Board of Governors of the Cleveland Clinic in 2015.
Dr Zein’s research focuses on improving disease and treatment outcome in patients with the Hepatitis C virus before and after liver transplantation. He has authored over 200 publications, and has been the Principal Investigator of several large clinical trials. He holds several patents and established a research group at Cleveland Clinic focused on 3D printing of solid organs.
Dr. Zein is actively involved in the education of fellows and residents being trained at the Cleveland Clinic. He has been recognized by the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Teacher of the Year, a distinction that reflects his commitment to the education and mentorship of young physicians.
Dr. Zein has served as the Editor of “The Year in Gastroenterology and Hepatology” associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Special Section Editor of “Liver Transplantation” and an editorial board member of Hepatology and Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Dr. Erik Fleischman
International Medical Director
Bumrungrad International Hospital
Following his specialty training he returned to the USA where the HIV/AIDS epidemic was rapidly becoming the most deadly health issue in modern history. He joined the fight against AIDS in one of Southern California’s largest private HIV/AIDS treatment practices. He participated in the early studies and development of antiretroviral medications and treatments/preventions for deadly opportunistic infections. He also co-founded a support group for infected patients dealing with difficult social and emotional issues including addiction. Over the next twelve years Dr. Fleischman incorporated alternative medicine (acupuncture/Chinese Medicine/anti-aging/exercise) into his practice to develop a complete and holistic focus on his patients’ health
In 1997, Dr. Fleischman began participating in international charitable medical projects. His first venture into international medical care was with SEVA Foundation in remote Tibet on a project that preserved or saved eyesight for over 500 people in this austere difficult environment. Following this exciting work Dr. Fleischman’s vacation time thereafter was consumed with international medical relief work. His lengthy experience in HIV/AIDS treatment took him to Africa where development of treatment systems and education of local clinicians was essential.
In 2003 Dr. Fleischman left his California practice and moved to Thailand to pursue full time international medical work in resource poor areas of the world. He was hired as a Senior Clinical Advisor for the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative and spent seven years with the foundation working on three continents. His work took him to over fifteen countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Eastern Europe where he advised on best clinical practices of HIV/AIDS/TB and associated illnesses. He participated in national HIV/AIDS training programs for local physicians and participated in the development of national treatment protocols for anti-retroviral medication and all aspects of complex HIV patient management for adults, children and pregnant mothers.
Dr. Fleischman has received a Lifetime Humanitarian Award for his HIV/AIDS and refugee work in eight African countries from the International First Ladies of Africa Summit in Los Angeles, California in 2013.
Also during his time abroad, Dr. Fleischman was employed by International SOS as a Consulting Physician advising the development of best clinical care in austere and difficult remote regions of the world. He spent ten years with International SOS becoming an expert in the analysis of private and public medical care in developed and remote areas of the world and the implementation of emergency medical evacuation to save life and limb. One of his most prominent positions was onsite Medical Advisor to Newmont Mining Corporation for their large Indonesian gold and copper mining projects. He brought his extensive clinical experience to a remote medical operation responsible for the care of fifteen thousand workers and families in remote Central Indonesia. Besides General practice management, pre-natal and emergency care, he was responsible for oversight of Occupational and Public Health as well as the training of local doctors, nurses and paramedics in state-of-the-art patient management for this Fortune 500 company. He also co-directed a wellness program intent on decreasing the prevalence of preventable diseases which cause debilitating health issues resulting in death, loss of vitality and loss of production for employers.
In 2014 Dr. Fleischman joined the fight against the Ebola epidemic as Assistant Medical Director and Director of Training for four rural USAID funded Ebola Treatment Units in remote Liberia. He was responsible for the training of over 500 local Liberian Ebola workers.
Dr. Fleischman is currently the International Medical Director of Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. Bumrungrad Hospital was recently ranked as the ninth best international hospital in the world treating 1.2 million patients per year with 50% of the patients come to Thailand from abroad for treatment.
Dr. Fleischman has continued his passion for challenging medical work around the world. He has over 25 years of clinical experience in the private, public and remote and urban medical sectors domestically and internationally. He complements this experience with skills in medical practice management, clinic and practice development and international government and private sector medical consultation.
Aileen R. Killen, RN, PhD, CPPS
Global Head of Healthcare Risk Consulting
Prior to joining AIG in 2014, Aileen held progressive staff, educational and administrative positions in perioperative nursing at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) Hospital for Special Surgery, Mount Sinai Medical Center and New York University Medical Center, all in New York City as well as at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. In 2007, she became the first Director of Patient Safety Programs at MSK where she was responsible for developing systems and programs to prevent harm to patients.
Aileen holds Masters degrees in Nursing and in Management/Health Policy, as well as a PhD in Nursing. She was a Patient Safety Leadership Fellow in 2002-2003 focusing on the design and construction of operating rooms for patient and staff safety. Aileen is a nationally recognized speaker and author on a variety of topics including patient safety, ethics and perioperative management.
President & CEO
Today, Mr. Boress advocates for the “Purchaser” perspective of health care. He assists employers in their health benefit designs, worksite wellness and incentive programs. He leads MBGH’s community initiatives, including the Leapfrog Group’s patient safety activities in Illinois, efforts to reduce early elective deliveries and promoting the Choosing Wisely initiative to reduce unnecessary medical care.
He oversees MBGH’s group purchasing and health benefit services activities, providing information, fee negotiation and performance reviews for employers on health plans, condition management services, pharmacy benefits, transparency services and private exchange strategies, being a co-founder of the Private Exchange Evaluation Collaborative (PEEC), an entity offering unbiased, objective information, advice and services on private health insurance exchanges.
He also serves as Executive Director of the National Association of Worksite Health Centers, an affiliate of MBGH, dedicated to expanding the knowledge and capabilities of employer-sponsors of onsite health, pharmacy, fitness and wellness centers.
Senior Executive Officer & Global Head B2G, CIGNA International
Cigna B2G segment focus on providing health cover for diplomatic missions/ government sponsored students and people traveling for treatment around the globe. Prior to this he was responsible for the P&L of Middle East and North Africa region for Cigna International. He has more than nineteen years of executive experience in the rapidly growing international healthcare industry with leading multinational organisations like Aetna International, UnitedHealth Group, Mercer (Marsh & McLennan Group) and Allianz AG.
Prior to joining Cigna he served as Regional Director MEA & Head of strategic development in Aetna International based in Dubai. Prior to that, he served as the Regional Vice President- Asia, Middle East and Africa in UnitedHealthcare International.
Dr. Omar Shalabi
Division Head for the Central & Western Regions, Management Population Health Division
He joined Jordan University in Amman-Jordan Medical College in autumn 1977 and graduated with an MBBS degree in Medicine in 1983. He completed a one-year Internship at Jordan University Hospital from 1983-1984, and a Residency program at Jordan University Hospital from 1984 – 1987, where he received a Master’s Degree in Internal Medicine.
After a short stint as a locum physician in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Shalabi joined Saudi Aramco in March 1988 full-time, where he held various positions including: Emergency Room Physician, High-risk Clinic Physician, and Group Practice. Since 1994, Dr. Shalabi has held a number of administrative positions ranging from Senior Physician, to Unit Head, to his current position as Chief Central & Western Regions Care Management/Population Health Division, Medical Care Management Department, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare. Dr. Shalabi is also assigned as Physician Manager upon full conversion to John’s Hopkins Aramco Health care as of May 1st, 2017.
During his career Dr. Shalabi has been certified in BLS, ACLS, ATLS, APLS, PLS, and was an ACLS instructor certified by both the Saudi Hear Association and American Heart Association where he lectured and toured on numerous medical topics. He is also a standing member of several medical committees including Pharmacy, Therapeutic, Medical Referral Board, and the Intra Regional Referral Committee. In 2014, he was selected by colleagues as a change agent with the John’s Hopkins Aramco Health Care Joint Venture Initiative.
Over his tenure in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Shalabi’ s responsibilities have included Contract Compliance and Management for over 100 facilities including Specialty Hospital Amman –Jordan (Referral Contract), Outreach Programs, Staffing Service Review, and Industrial Security and Occupational Medical Fitness Oversight such as with Firefighter Certification. Additionally, he currently serves as a Subject-Matter Expert in Personnel issues related to medical categorization and remuneration for employee leave time.
His emphasis on quality, safe and patient centered medical care is evident via his work to support Joint Commission International Accreditation for nearly 20 hospitals in the Kingdom since 1994.
Dr. Shalabi participated in the International Medical Tourism Conference (IMTC) in Amman Jordan May 30-31,2015 .Also he participated as a Speaker in the 8th Annual World Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare Congress that was held at the Orange County Convention Center-west concourse-Orlando Florida during the period September 27-30, 2015 and the 9th Annual World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress that was held in Washington D.C. during the period September 25-28,2016.The Medical Tourism Association President presented to Dr. Shalabi the year 2015 Global Insurance Leadership Award in recognition of the professional accomplishments in the Global Insurance Industry of Johns Hopkins Aramco Health Care and Dr. Shalabi Contributions in the Congress.
Dr. Shalabi accompanied by teams from the Medical organizations, HR, Personnel and others as needed toured so many locations within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to meet with the Saudi Aramco employees and management and to visit the medical facilities that provide the care to the EMRs as part of the continuous efforts to address the needs, concerns and plan the necessary actions to handle the requirements keeping the customer satisfaction and the patient centered care as the main focus.
Dr. Shalabi believes that communication is the most important vehicle required to deliver excellent service in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia via the following acronym: Knowledge, Skills and Attitude. These three elements work together for successful people and projects, and support controlled medical tourism which requires these attributes.
Prof. Anupam Sibal
Group Medical Director
The Apollo Transplant Program has been the busiest solid organ transplant program in the world since 2012. In 2015, 1627 (410 liver, 1210 kidney) transplants were performed across the Group.
Professor Sibal was appointed as the Group Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group in 2005.
Professor Sibal is an Honorary Clinical Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He has more than ninety-five publications in medical literature, serves on the editorial board of three journals and has edited a text book of paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology.
In June 2005, he helped achieve the First International Accreditation of a hospital in India by Joint Commission International (JCI). Prof. Sibal served as the only Asian JCI Physician Surveyor from January 2008 to 2010. He currently is a member, Asia – Pacific Advisory Council of JCI.
He served as a member of the Institute Body (IB) of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, (PGIMER) Chandigarh from 2009 – 2014. IB is the highest decision making body of PGIMER headed by the Union Cabinet Minister for Health and Family Welfare.
He has served on the Executive Council of the International Pediatric Transplant Association, The Asian Pan Pacific Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the Commonwealth Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and has lectured extensively in India and abroad.
Prof. Sibal is the author of “Is Your Child Ready to face the World?” Exploring the crux of parenting, this book asks and answers whether your child is ready to face the world. The book was launched at the Jaipur Lit Fest and has become a national best seller.
He joined start-up BridgeHealth in 2009 and built the leading U.S. company in commercial bundled payments servicing major corporations. BridgeHealth holds bundled contracts with seventy-five hospitals and surgery centers covering over 500 unique case rated procedures.
Mr. Burgett leads the Quandary Solutions consulting team working with medical providers on the development, implementation and marketing of bundled case rate programs.
Susan Frampton, PhD
Dr. Frampton currently chairs the National Quality Forum’s National Quality Partners Leadership Consortium, and has co-chaired NQF Action Teams on Advanced Illness Care, Patient-Family Engagement, and Decreasing Hospital (Re)Admissions. She serves on the Governing Board for the WHO-CC International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals, and the editorial board for the Journal of Compassionate Healthcare. In addition to speaking internationally on culture change, quality, safety, and the patient experience, she was honored in 2009, when she was named one of “20 People who Make Healthcare Better” by Health Leaders Magazine.

Noam Joined Aetna International in 2012. At AIG and United Healthcare, Noam was instrumental in procuring and implementing new cost containment solutions as well as developing and managing global provider network. In addition to his corporate experience, Noam has served as advisor on cross-disciplinary solutions for public and private sector clients in the travel assistance, medical travel and medical cost containment industries.
Noam received his Bachelors in business administration and marketing from the School of Business at Adelphi University. He resides with his wife and three kids in Long Island, New York.
Amy has extensive experience in International hospital contracting and understanding the individual needs of patients accessing quality medical treatment outside of their home country. As Head of International Benefits Management, Amy was responsible for National and International Provider Networks ensuring sustained quality, value and choice for nib’s International Customers, along with benefits coordination through the development of clinical protocols, establishment of quality care programs and individual case management.
Now leading nib’s Options business, Amy is instrumental in the investigation, management and development of an International Provider Network, with a key focus on quality and credentialling to ensure the provision of informed choice and quality care to people seeking medical treatment in Australia and throughout the world.
